DHB configuration

To assemble a complete system, you will need to gather four key components: a Heat Sink (HS) with the corresponding Heat Sink Connector (HSC), the Heat Blocks (HB), the Nozzle (Nz) and the MCH heaters, one or ideally two with the bulb thermistor.

1. Heat Sink (HS)

Original or Adapted heat sink when available?

For some situations, a modified Heat Sink has been developed, to implement the Starlex DHB in place. In this case, no other mechanical changes are necessary on your tool head.

Modified HS
The modified HS for a DHB 22.5 would be the same nozzle height than the original nozzle height with a much longer melt zone, 22.5mm. The electrical connections will need to be adapted, JST xh2.54/ Molex Microfit 3.0...

Original HS
The Starlex DHB will be added under the original heat sink with a HSC, HSCS and Base Plate. It will increase hotend Z height, fan shroud will need to be adapted, redesigned by customer, Z height adjusted. The electrical connections will need to be adapted, JST xh2.54 / Molex Microfit 3.0 / 4 pins screw connector ...

2. Dual Heat Block (DHB)

We value adaptability and we offer several options to meet your specific requirements.

Have a single heater, on one side only, or as the Starlex DHB Eco-system is symmetrical and designed for that purpose, have two MCH heaters, one on each side to maximize heating performances.

Heat blocks are in contact with the nozzle, inner heat block diameter must correspond to the nozzle diameter, D2.5, or D3.0mm. There is a tiny gap between both heat blocks, they do not touch each other for the standard heat blocks.

> Single heater does already work great, or dual heater, with a combination of 30W, 40W, 60W, 80W, 120W... make sure your electronics can support higher wattage ! Connectors will need to be adapted

> Some harness connectors are available for JST XH2.54 and Microfit 3.0, rating maximum 4 amps in total.

3. Nozzles (Nz)

Nozzles are available in a range of materials and lengths to offer maximum flexibility.
Most drop-in replacements are done with a 22.5mm Nozzle.

Brass

 3mm*  22.5mm | 24mm | 33mm

Copper (Nickel plated)

 3mm*  22.5mm | 24mm | 33mm

Hardened Stainless Steel

 2.5mm*  22.5mm | 24mm

*outer diameter

>  Hardened stainless steel nozzle is 2.5mm diameter, heat blocks need to correspond (only available at present for DHB22.5 and DHB24)

> Brass or copper nozzles are 3mm diameter, heat blocks need to correspond

> Nozzle length, 22.5; 24; 33mm melt zone, heat blocks need to correspond

> Nozzle output diameters, standard size, 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8

4. Heaters and electrical connectors

We use flat MCH heaters and bulb 1.3mm diameter NTC 100K 3950 thermistors to fit the Starlex DHB Eco-system. Options to implement a small PT1000 thermistor into the heat block will soon be available.

As there is many connector type, we propose this screw connector model to simplify connections. Make sure your printer supports higher wattage for the heaters.

It's at your own risk.

MCH heaters can be provided with:

> JST xh2.54 connector or Molex Microfit 3.0 connector or without connector.

> JST xh2.54 harness connectors / Molex Microfit 3.0  harness connectors

Thermistor come with a JST GH 1.25 connector or JST XH1.25 adapted connector.
